{"id":10486,"date":"2022-09-19T06:51:16","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T06:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.szlaser.com\/?page_id=10486"},"modified":"2022-09-19T07:16:08","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T07:16:08","slug":"cleaning-and-handling-optics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.szlaser.com\/index.php\/wiki\/cleaning-and-handling-optics\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidelines of Cleaning And Handling Optics"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container has-pattern-background has-mask-background nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"max-width:1331.2px;margin-left: calc(-4% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-4% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-one\"><h1 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"margin:0;--fontSize:32;line-height:1.3;\"><h1>Guidelines of Cleaning And Handling Optics<\/h1><\/h1><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>Be sure to perform the following actions when possible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you do not know how to clean a surface, ask before touching it.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of the health and safety aspects of optical materials and cleaning solvents when handling them.<\/li>\n<li>Always hold optics on their edges or non-optical surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Always use an air duster as a first step when cleaning optics.<\/li>\n<li>When removing particles with the canned dry air duster, assure that a\u00a0gas coming out of the canister and not liquid drops.<\/li>\n<li>After each cleaning process, always make a visual inspection (use a\u00a0magnifying glass or loupe if necessary) to see if the surface is clean.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the optical elements in a restricted-access area to prevent handling by untrained and unauthorized personnel.<\/li>\n<li>If the cleaning process must be repeated, use a new lens paper or tissue (always immersed with cleaning solvent).<\/li>\n<li>All personnel responsible for cleaning optical elements should read the relevant material safety data sheets (MSDS); the MSDS should be made available by a supervisor or website\u2014they are free to distribute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Heed the following warnings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Never clean optical glass without gently blowing or brushing away smalldust particles first.<\/li>\n<li>Do not clean a surface with any sort of dry tissue, which can scratch\u00a0even hard coatings.<\/li>\n<li>Do not rub optical surfaces (coated or uncoated).<\/li>\n<li>Never put optics on hard and rough surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Do not touch optical surfaces with bare hands.<\/li>\n<li>Do not re-use used cleaning paper or tissue.<\/li>\n<li>Do not use any sort of tissue on bare, metallic coated (aluminum, gold) or uncoated (aluminum when used as a mirror after a diamond-turning process) because it will create scratches. Use a cotton swab and solvent suitable for cleaning bare materials to remove localized specks.<\/li>\n<li>Do not clean plastic elements with cleaning solution that might damage the surfaces. Check out what cleaning solution fits cleaning the plastic element.<\/li>\n<li>Do not use a canned dry air duster on elements that are sensitive to\u00a0thermal shock (e.g., CaF2). Be aware of the limitation of using canned dry with some materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*LENS TISSUES AND OTHER ACCESSORIES AND CLEANING MATERIALS ARE INEXPENSIVE COMPARED TO THE PRICE OF AN OPTICAL ELEMENT. INSPECT OPTICS FOR DUST AND STAINS BY HOLDING THEM NEAR A BRIGHT, VISIBLE-LIGHT SOURCE.
